We are a community-based women's organization which aims to respect and reflect the diversity of women. We are run by, and for, women.

We carry out research and initiate policy changes at both the local and provincial level in order to improve the status and further the political, social and economic equality
of women in the community.

Womanspace has been operating in Lethbridge for over 20 years.

Womanspace has MOVED

In the spirit of downsizing and ensuring the survival of Womanspace, we are

moving.  Although we will remain in the Professional building, we will be

moving into a smaller, more efficient office space located in the basement

of the building.  As of August 1, our new address will be:

#16, 740-4th Ave. South, Lethbridge, AB  T1HJ 0N9

During the G20 summit, over 900 people were arrested and detained for hours, and most have been released without charge. Stories are now emerging of how peaceful citizens were treated: http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/torontog20summit/article/829921--i-will-not-forget-what-they-have-done-to-me?bn=1.

Serious questions are also being raised about why the police allowed vandals to roam freely for over 1.5 hours, but beat, harassed, and unlawfully detained hundreds of peaceful citizens.

One Canadian, independent journalist Amy Miller, describes in this video how she was told by police that she would be "raped," "gangbanged," and would never want to work as a journalist again after her experience in jail. http://vimeo.com/12925239.

Canadians should be outraged. We at Womanspace are outraged. Call or write to the Prime Minister and demand a public inquiry into Canada's $1 billion shame.

After nearly 25 years, Womanspace is without funding from Status of Women Canada. Please visit www.marthasmonthly.ca for letter writing ideas.
